Exodus - Airbrakes

Exodus Airbrakes

Engineering Challenge

Last year's rocket experienced a significant reduction in actual apogee when the launch was delayed several hours. The change in weather conditions (including wind speed, direction, temperature, humidity, and pressure) caused the rocket to reach an apogee 800 feet lower than predicted. The team placed 18th in the world, but based on the points gained from the closer apogee, reproducing the flight experienced in New York where an apogee of 10,088 feet was reached, the team would have placed first in the world. This project's aim is to create a system which will be able to, in real time, adjust to a wide range of environmental conditions to hit a precise, predetermined target apogee.

Results from simulations over March to May 2025 weather conditions show an overall error between the achieved apogee and the target apogee remaining within ±0.5%.
